The Spurs Model: Know What Matters

No matter your opinion of them as a team, you have to agree that the San Antonio Spurs are a model of consistency, winning… and diversity.

Each of the seven foreign-born players on their roster was an integral component to the team’s success. One of the breakout stars for the Spurs has been backup point guard Patty Mills, who delivered an incredible performance in the fifth game of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Mills scored 17 points, including four straight 3-pointers, helping the Spurs clinch the championship.

Achieving Greatness through Teamwork

Shane Battier’s season—and career—ended last weekend in a solemn locker room with emotions he wasn’t expecting.

Battier’s Miami Heat had just lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. For Battier, this swan song of his career didn’t allow him to hold the championship trophy, but he did pick up a piece of hardware that spoke volumes about the years he’s played and what so many of his colleagues think of him.

Battier is one of my favorite players in the NBA. He possesses a grittiness in his defensive play that has consistently fascinated me throughout his thirteen-year career.

LeBron’s Leap Year

The closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics capped off an athletic celebration of more than 40 world records being etched in history, and more than 100 Olympic records being shattered.

In a span of 17 days, thousands of the top athletes on the planet showcased what had been, in most cases, at least four years of relentless training. The Summer Games gave us nearly 3 weeks worth of men and women striving for success. It proved that even when surrounded by great achievement, there’s still an opportunity to be even greater.
